May 2020, when the whole world was coming to terms with the pandemic, I felt stuck at home, almost trapped! Until I came across this article, of a migrant worker who was one of the many victims of the harsh reality of the migrant crisis India was facing. This helped give be perspective and realise how privileged I am and that I wasn't stuck, but safe in my home, a luxury so many people didn't have.
Walking back home across the county in the scorching summer heat of India, this man with a differently abled child, has to resort to the unthinkable and is forced to steel/borrow someone's cycle, to reach his hometown of Bareily, UP in central India.
This poster is dedicated to all those who fought and struggled to get home.
I hope he and his family reached home safely.
A photo of the actual letter he wrote.
Translation:
I am a labourer, I am also helpless
I am your culprit, I am taking your cycle.
Please forgive me, I have to go to Bareily
I have no vehicle and a handicapped child.
